Click on one of the underlined links listed below to download the file. Each census has a different format because of the questions asked by the census enumerator.

File Format for Entering U. S. Federal Census Data - [Excel97] Data can be directly entered into the workbook and printed for each family with a listing on the first sheet for the head of household for each family. Copy the form (Sheet Z) by clicking the Z (as shown in the example) and selecting Edit, Move or Copy Sheet, and check Create a Copy to preserve all of the formatting within the form. Place the new sheet before Sheet Z and rename to A. Repeat for the second sheet renaming it as B and the third sheet as C etc. Add the name of the sheet and the Head of Household to the List sheet so that you can quickly determine what sheet to select to locate your information when you return to the workbook later.

The name of the Street was included in the Census for 1880-1940. The second column below identifies the cell to enter the street name. The street name will display vertically.

*Note: If 2 columns are contained under 1 heading (when the left and right portions of the census are stacked) all information is entered into the left column since the spreadsheet has been formatted to center the data across the columns.
